Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellowships

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellows program provides the nation's most comprehensive fellowship experience at the nexus of health science, policy and politics in Washington, D.C. It is an outstanding opportunity for exceptional midcareer health professionals and behavioral and social scientists with an interest in health and health care policy promoting the health of the nation. Fellows participate in the policy process at the federal level and use that leadership experience to improve health, health care and health policy.

Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Graduate Fellowships

Graduate and professional school students and those who have completed graduate studies (degree awarded) within the last five years may apply. Areas of study may include any social/behavioral science, medical/health discipline, physical or biological science, any field of engineering, law/business/public administration, or any relevant interdisciplinary fields.
 

New Voices in Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine

A cohort-based leadership program that promotes collaboration among outstanding early- and mid-career scientists, engineers, and medical professionals during a two-year term of service. Gilbert S. Omenn Fellowship

Enables talented, early-career physician-scientists combining biomedical research, public health, and clinical medicine to participate actively in health- and medicine-related study processes of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (the National Academies), promoting the integration of public health and medicine — both scientifically and through practice and policy.
 

Greenwall Fellowship in Bioethics

Provides talented, early-career bioethics scholars with the opportunity to experience and participate in evidence-based healthcare or public health studies and policy-making process that improve the care and access to care of patients in domestic and global health care systems.
 

American Academy of Nursing Fellowship

Provides talented, early-career health science scholars in nursing with the opportunity to experience and participate in evidence-based healthcare or public health studies that improve the care and access to care of patients in domestic and global health care systems.
 

Distinguished Nurse Scholar-in-Residence Program

Provides a year-long residential health policy opportunity in Washington, DC, for outstanding nurse leaders. Designed to advance equity and develop a cadre of leaders who can drive implementation of effective strategies to raise awareness of diagnosis in medicine, support diagnostic excellence, and reduce diagnostic errors at the national level. The program seeks exceptional individuals who are interested in focusing on diagnosis-related work from a broad range of disciplines and professions — including physicians, advanced practice clinicians, quality experts, informaticians, and researchers.
 

National Academy of Medicine Fellowship to Advance State Health Policy

Provides talented, early-career health science scholars from Wisconsin with the opportunity to experience and participate in evidence-based healthcare or public health studies that improve the care and access to care of patients in domestic and global health care systems.
 

National Academy of Medicine Fellowship in Pharmacy

This experience will introduce the National Academy of Medicine Fellow in Pharmacy to a variety of experts and perspectives, including legislators, government officials, industry leaders, executives of voluntary health organizations, scientists, and other health professionals. In addition, each fellow will be assigned to an National Academy of Medicine member who will serve as a senior mentor during the two years of the fellowship.
 

Jefferson Science Fellowships

Jefferson Science Fellowships are an innovative model for engaging faculty in the U.S. foreign policy and international development process through a one-year immersive experience at the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Open to tenured, or similarly ranked, faculty from U.S. institutions of higher learning who are U.S. citizens.
 

Climate Crossroads Congressional Fellowship

Provides current Congressional staff with a solid grounding in the science, engineering, and health dimensions of climate change. Policy relevant to agriculture, natural resource management, transportation, infrastructure, immigration, health, national security, and more can be informed by how climate change could affect these sectors, and how they can be part of the solution.

The Gulf Research Program's Science Policy Fellowship program helps scientists hone their skills by putting them to practice for the benefit of Gulf Coast communities and ecosystems. Fellows gain first-hand policymaking experience as they spend one year on the staff of federal, state, local, or non-governmental environmental, natural resource, oil and gas, and public health agencies in the Gulf of Mexico region. With the guidance of a mentor, fellows delve into activities like policy development, evaluation, restoration planning, grants management, and stakeholder outreach and learn what it takes to make scientific information not just useful but usable. Meanwhile, host offices get a talented technical expert with a fresh perspective and a new network of contacts across the Gulf of Mexico region.
 

Gulf Research Program Early-Career Research Fellowships

The Gulf Research Program's Early-Career Research Fellowship supports emerging scientific leaders as they take risks on research ideas not yet tested, pursue unique collaborations, and build a network of colleagues who share their interest in improving offshore energy system safety and the well-being of coastal communities and ecosystems. Because the early years of a researcher's career are a critical time, the relatively unrestricted funds and mentoring this fellowship provides help recipients navigate this period with independence, flexibility, and a built-in support network.

Army Research Laboratory (ARL) Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowships

Provides early career researchers the opportunity to pursue independent research of their own choosing that supports the mission of ARL. Candidates must display extraordinary ability in scientific research, show clear promise of becoming outstanding leaders, and are expected to have already successfully tackled a major scientific or engineering problem during their thesis work or to have provided a new approach or insight, evidenced by a recognized impact in their field.

National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) Methane Hydrate Fellowships

A Research Fellowship Program designed to support the development of Methane Hydrate science and enable highly qualified graduate and postgraduate students to pursue advanced degrees and training in an area of increasing national interest. With respect to the energy production potential of gas hydrates, interest is in projects that will provide improved tools, methods, and information relative to the remote detection, characterization, and appraisal of production potential of Methane Hydrates. With respect to gas hydrates as a part of the global environment, interest is in projects that provide an improved understanding of the processes that control the distribution, occurrence, and stability of gas hydrates in marine and permafrost settings.
 

Biotechnology Regulatory Fellowship Program

Six-month, full-time, hands-on professional development fellowships structured to engage early career professionals in developing the evidence basis needed to meet future regulatory challenges presented by novel products of biotechnology. Fellows will identify new regulatory frameworks for the anticipated cutting-edge products expected to emerge over the next several decades and thereby expand agency options for thoughtful, effective regulation.
 

FDA Tobacco Regulatory Science Fellowship

The tobacco regulatory science fellowship is a collaborative program between the FDA Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) and the National Academy of Medicine (NAM)External Link Disclaimer. The fellowship is designed for mid-career professionals to gain experience and expertise to further define and develop the field of regulatory science as it relates to the regulation of tobacco products and FDA's authorities under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act.
 

Beebe Fellowship Program

Provides an opportunity for a scientist to contribute to the fundamental science at the Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF) in Hiroshima, Japan. The fellowship is intended for mid- to senior-level radiation scientists, data scientists, bioinformaticists, clinical data scientists, epidemiologists, biostatisticians and other scientists in fields relevant to RERF.
 

One-Health Research Fellowships in Pakistan

Competitively chosen Pakistani fellows will be paired with U.S. experts/hosts who work outside the U.S. on 1-H related research topics pertinent to Pakistan. For each of these young scientists the project will provide the opportunity to spend some time in the hosts' laboratories. For the duration of the fellowships, the project provides opportunities for additional education, such as monthly webinars, a Research Symposium toward the end of the project, and attendance and presentation at an international conference of related subject matter.
 

Committee on Human Rights-Carnegie Mellon University Distance Fellowship Program

In collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), the Committee on Human Rights (CHR) has established a distance fellowship program for at-risk scholars unable to pursue their teaching and/or research. The program provides fellows with CMU Affiliate status, which includes the same online library access as faculty located at the university. Fellows are also connected with CMU scholars in their fields.
